Jacob Setzer arrived on Oct 27, 1738 on the ship St. Andrew.  Jacob Michael Setzer arrived on Sept., 26, 1753 on the ship Brothers. This person is identified as Jacob Setzer on the Captain's list for this ship, as Jacob Setzer on the list of those taking the Oath of Allegiance to the King.  Jacob was a physician and brought his medical books with him. He settled on the farm of Conrad Bovy near Newton.   Jacob Setzer married Conrad Bovy's daughter about 1753.

The first deed found recorded to Setzer in North Carolina is to Jacob Setzer, dated December 10, 1766 for 196.5 acres near present Newton, NC from Conrad Bovy and wife, Magdalene, however Jacob Setzer was in North Carolina in the 1750s when his sons were born. [Rowan [now Randolph] County, NC was formed from Anson in 1753. On a Special Note:

My grandmother, Nora Lee Wood, whom married Charles Joseph Setzer was of the Cherokee Nation.  The best that I can piece together of her story from relatives and historical findings was that she born of a mixed marriage, Cherokee and Caucasian from Little Rock, Arkansas.  Her parents died and she was adopted by the Wood family. She was a wonderful homemaker who raised 7 children including 2 sets of twins.  Her home was known to those Cherokees that would walk the "Trail of Tears" in remembrance. My father growing up said, that his kitchen would always have "Indians" in it; morning, noon and night!  Grandma Setzer was a great cook, so I can understand why!

*Charles married Nora Lee Wood- on 3 Dec 1905 in Haywood Co, North Carolina, USA. Nora was born on 12 Oct 1887 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She died on 1 Apr 1966 in Vero Beach Florida.
